Las Vegas Improv Class for Life & Communication Skills
Welcome to the World of Collaborative Creativity
Welcome to ‘Yes, And,’ a unique improv class designed for being human in all its wonderfully imperfect glory. At Vegas Improv Power, we believe in ‘Improv for being a human’ – our classes focus on real-life applications that go far beyond traditional comedy improvisation.
What is the ‘Yes, And’ Improv Class?
Our ‘Yes, And’ improv class harnesses the power of collaborative creativity, helping you unlock your potential for innovation and connection in a supportive environment. This 6-week Functional Improv® course aims to enhance your adaptability, boost your problem-solving skills, and amplify your ability to work with others, all within an engaging and dynamic setting.
Fostering Creativity and Problem-Solving in Uncertainty
In our rapidly changing world, the ability to adapt and create solutions in unpredictable situations is more valuable than ever. Recent research highlights that “Improvisation is […] a tool for engaging participants in an unpredictable co-creative process, fostering creativity and problem-solving under uncertainty” (Herriman, 2021). Our class embraces this principle, offering exercises and activities that cultivate adaptability, spark innovation, and build resilience in the face of the unknown.
What You’ll Learn
Through engaging exercises and games, you’ll enhance crucial communication skills, including active listening, boosting your ability to connect authentically with others both on and off the stage. Our unique Functional Improv® exercises and games are designed to refine your:
- Emotional response
- Communication abilities
- Adaptability and flexibility
- Creativity and problem-solving
- Listening skills
- Storytelling abilities
- Ability to see failure as a gift
- The power of saying ‘yes, and’
Improv for Anxiety and Social Skills
Recent research has shown that improv training can significantly reduce discomfort with uncertainty, a common trait of social anxiety and depression[2]. Whether you’re an introvert looking to boost confidence or someone dealing with anxiety, improv provides a safe environment to practice social interactions and build self-assurance.
Class Structure
During each 2.5-hour session, our experienced instructor will guide you through our latest collection of innovative improv exercises that focus on collaboration and acceptance. These activities are specifically curated to facilitate self-discovery, ensemble building, and forge new connections.
Who is This Class For?
Our class is an ideal opportunity for anyone seeking to enhance their communication skills, boost creativity, and explore the transformative power of collaborative thinking. Whether you’re:
- A beginner curious about improv
- An introvert looking to boost confidence
- Someone dealing with anxiety
- A professional aiming to enhance workplace skills
- Literally anyone looking to simply try something new
You’ll walk away from this class feeling invigorated, inspired, and ready to bring your newfound skills into your everyday life. As a recent study showed, practicing ‘yes, and…’ within a group has been linked to “improved interpersonal communication skills, trust, and personal satisfaction” (Herriman, 2021), suggesting that incorporating these principles into adult life can help improve relationships and overall well-being.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What if I’ve never done improv before?
A: No prior experience is necessary for our “Yes, And” class! We welcome beginners (and pros alike!) and design our exercises to be accessible for all skill levels. Our supportive environment ensures everyone feels comfortable exploring improv at their own pace. Need a little more hand holding? Let us know! Want to know how to kick an exercise up a notch? Let us know that as well!
Q: I’m an introvert. Is this class suitable for me?
A: Absolutely! Many of our students are introverts who find that improv helps them build confidence and social skills in a safe, supportive environment. Our “Improv for being human” approach focuses on personal growth rather than performance, making it ideal for introverts.
Q: What if I’m an extrovert? Or an experienced improviser?
You’re both welcome as well. In fact, anyone (ages 21+) is welcome! We talk a lot about ensemble in our classes for good reasons. People of all types are necessary parts in making an effective ensemble. There’s a reason you haven’t heard of a baseball team consisting entirely of right fielders!
Q: How can improv help with anxiety?
A: Research has shown that improv can help reduce social anxiety and discomfort with uncertainty. Our exercises encourage spontaneity and help you become more comfortable with unpredictable situations, which can translate to reduced anxiety in daily life.
Q: What’s the difference between Functional Improv® and regular improv classes?
A: Functional Improv® focuses on real-life applications of improv skills. We utilize many of the same exercises and games but have a different focus and debrief. While traditional improv classes often emphasize performance and comedy, our approach prioritizes personal growth, communication skills, and practical tools you can use in your everyday life and work.
Q: How long are the “Yes, And” classes?
A: Each “Yes, And” class session is 2.5 hours long, providing ample time for warm-ups, exercises, and group activities. The full course runs for 6 weeks, allowing for sustained skill development and personal growth. And if you still want more, we often schedule the next successive class for a few weeks after a class ends. Many of our students have so much fun that they take all three classes, becoming a Vegas Improv Power graduate. Finally, if you really want your mind blown, our world record is having a student take 7 different classes with us. It’s not that they forgot what we taught, it’s that improv can be thought of more as an ongoing practice, much like yoga.
Q: Will this class help me in my professional life?
A: Definitely! The skills you’ll develop in our “Yes, And” class, such as active listening, adaptability, and creative problem-solving, are highly valued in the workplace. Many of our students report improved communication with colleagues and enhanced leadership skills after taking our classes.
Q: Where are the classes held?
A: Our classes are conveniently located in central Las Vegas, just minutes from the Strip. That generally means Las Vegas Little Theatre or Mom’s Basement theater, both located near Decatur and Spring Mountain or Sahara. We’re easily accessible for residents from Henderson, North Las Vegas, Summerlin, and have had a resident or three from from Boulder City make the trek too.
Q: Do I need to prepare anything for the class?
A: Just bring yourself and an open mind! No materials are necessary, though you may want to bring a snack and some water, a coffee, a soda, or whatever you prefer (just no alcohol) as we don’t have any drinks or snacks to provide. Wear comfortable clothing that allows for easy movement, and be ready to collaborate and have fun!
